The Upload Tool
The Upload Tool of the ZALF Repository is a web application that enables researchers to submit soil and agricultural research data and their associated metadata to a robust, FAIR-compliant data repository. The repository provides access to German national and international data series, including long-term field experiments (LTEs).
All submissions are described using the BonaRes Metadata Schema, which builds on international standards such as DataCite 4.0 and ISO 19115, incorporates AGROVOC keywords for enhanced discoverability, and are licensed under CC-BY with a persistent DOI.
An Agricultural Repository
Via the Upload Tool, users first download a metadata template and fill in required fields. They then upload their dataset (CSV, Excel, or ZIP), the completed template, and any supplementary files.
The tool runs automated format checks and metadata validations before packaging everything into a coherent digital record. After internal review and quality assurance, submissions are published to the repository and become citable and searchable for the community.
Powered by ZALF
Managed by the ZALF e.V. and funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the Upload Tool also offers personal support during submission.
Its service-oriented architecture, compliance with the BonaRes Data Guideline, and support for OGC services (WMS/WFS/CSW) ensure long-term availability, interoperability, and high data quality.
